Patrols enforce crosswalk safety

New Bedford Police traffic division, in conjunction with community policing, remind you to be careful when approaching crosswalks. Vehicles MUST stop when a pedestrian is in a crosswalk in the direction they are driving.

Drivers headed the opposite direction must stop when the pedestrian is within 10 feet of their lane. Patrols are out periodically to monitor crosswalks and make sure drivers are following the regulations. Drivers who do not stop appropriately face a $205 fine.

On Thursday morning, June 1, crosswalk safety enforcement was targeted on Brock Avenue in the south end. So drive carefully, stay aware of crosswalks and keep things safe for drivers and pedestrians.
