Three department members shave their heads to support kids with cancer
Bald is beautiful.
Especially when having a bald head supports children with cancer.
Det. Claudia Sampson, Sgt. Bryan Safioleas and Officer Trevor Sylvia will have their heads shaved Sunday, June 3 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough during One Mission Buzz Off, which raises money for services to help children with cancer.
Funds raised help with decorating a hospital room, providing art kits and crafts, putting on birthday parties and holiday celebrations and paying for hospital parking, among other things, all aimed at improving life for children fighting cancer and their families.
Det. Sampson, a 32-year veteran of the New Bedford Police Department, understands the importance of support during a cancer battle. She is a two-time cancer survivor. She battled the disease in 2002 and again in 2010.
She also lost her mother and brother to the disease.
Sgt. Safioleas also had his head shaved at last year’s event. Officer Sylvia is a first-time participant.
