Traffic Stop Leads to Gun Seizure and Arrest

New Bedford police officers stopped a vehicle during the early morning hours and took an illegal gun off the streets.

At around 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 29th, Officers Emily Pacheco and William Mouyos were on patrol in the south-end sector.  At this time, they observed a vehicle speeding on County Street and disregarding a red light at the Union Street intersection.

The officers stopped the vehicle and approached the operator, who was identified as GENNYS SILVERIO, 23, of 146 APPLE TREE LANE.  As officers were speaking with SILVERIO, he suddenly shifted into drive and attempted to flee the scene.  SILVERIO fled a short distance before crashing his vehicle into a brick wall on Kempton Street.  He then attempted to flee on foot before finally being apprehended by the officers.

A search of SILVERIO’s vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded .38 caliber revolver.  SILVERIO has no license to carry a firearm.  He was placed under arrest and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, failing to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage.
