Two Arrested After Detectives Recover Two Loaded Firearms in South
NEW BEDFORD — Two people, including a juvenile, have been arrested after detectives recovered two firearms in the south end.
On Saturday, May 31st, Detectives Stephanie Connolly and Matthew Couture were operating in the south end sector of the city, targeting street-level narcotics.
At 3:30 p.m., Detectives Connolly and Couture were driving on S. Second Street when they observed two males walking north towards the intersection of South Street, wearing heavy clothing and ski masks, with the current temperature outside being 60 degrees. Once the two males made contact with their cruiser, they began to walk at a faster pace and had hidden behind a trash storage on Acushnet Avenue.
After making contact with both males, identified as TAVARUS LAMAR VEAL, 20, of 64 HAZARD STREET APT. R, and one being a juvenile, detectives checked the trash storage and located a black Glock 19 firearm with a high-capacity magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammo, with one round in the chamber. During a further search of the area, detectives also found a black Ruger LCP loaded with six rounds of .380 Cal ammo.
VEAL and the juvenile were arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
The juvenile was transported to the Brockton DYS facility.
