Women’s Center honors NBPD domestic violence unit

The Women’s Center of New Bedford honored the New Bedford Police Department Domestic Violence Unit with its civic partner award Sept. 25.

 “For more than 20 years, the New Bedford Police Department domestic violence unit has been critical partners with The Women’s Center,” the plaque reads. “Serving local victims of domestic violence and helping them to find a path to healing and a future free from violence.” Front row from left, Jacquie Gomes, legal advocacy program manager for The Women’s Center; Sue Burris, night advocate, domestic violence unit; Dorothy Lopes, resource coordinator for the domestic violence unit; Camille Anderson, civilian advocate; and Det.
