NBPD mourns Retired Officer Joseph Magalhaes
We are saddened to report the loss of a family member, Retired Police Officer Joseph Magalhaes.
He joined the department in 1992. He worked at police headquarters, at station 2 and in the domestic violence unit before retiring in 2014.
Joseph Magalhaes, age 48, died at his residence on April 4, 2018. He was the husband of Deborah (Brum) Magalhaes. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Jose Magalhaes and Aurelia (Cardosa) Magalhaes.
Joseph was a 1987 graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Technical Vocational High School. Mr. Magalhaes was a retired New Bedford Police Officer.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his son Tyler Joseph Magalhaes, of New Bedford, and his grandmother Alda Cardosa. He was the grandson of the late Alfredo Cardosa and Ana and Fermino Magalhaes.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford. His burial will be private.
