NBPD mourns Retired Officer Ronald Pacheco
We are saddened to report that we have lost a member of our family, Retired Police Officer Ronald Pacheco. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He joined the department in 1975 and served in the K-9 unit, worked at station 1 and 2 and in the narcotics unit before retiring as a police officer. He became a dispatcher in 2004 and retired from that position in 2012.
New Bedford – Ronald Pacheco, age 68 of Dartmouth, passed away April 4, 2018 at St Lukes Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the husband of Linda (Mello) Pacheco .
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Ernest and Georgiana (Viera) Pacheco. He resided in Dartmouth and previously lived in New Bedford and Clearwater, Florida.
Ronald graduated from New Bedford High School. He then joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. He worked at Walpole State Prison and then became a Police Officer for the City of New Bedford until his Retirement.
Ronald was an avid Red Sox fan and also loved his New England Patriots. He liked spending time with his family and adored hid grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; 2 sons, Ronnie Pacheco and his companion Karen Rush, Barry Pacheco and his wife Jessica Pacheco of Dartmouth, his beloved granddaughters Adyson Pacheco and Emma Pacheco, a sister Linda Harwood and her husband Gary, a niece Krystal Harwood of New Bedford and several cousins and godchildren.
Special thanks to Joseph Lopes who was like a brother to him and Michael Petty and Kevin Harrington who he considered family.
In Accordance with his wishes Ron will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date.
