Murder Suspect Now Charged with August Carjacking
A local man who has been charged with murder now stands accused of a recent carjacking.
On August 14th, at around 9:30 PM, patrol units responded to the “Boa Vista Tower” parking lot in response to an armed carjacking. Two victims had been sitting in their vehicle when they were suddenly approached by two masked males brandishing firearms. The victims were ordered out of their car at gunpoint and instructed to leave behind their personal belongings as the suspects entered and fled the scene north on S. Second Street.
Det. Timothy Soares has now identified one of those suspects as ANTHONY JALO, 21. JALO had been placed under arrest for the murder of Aaron Britto, who was shot and killed during a robbery on August 4th. While being taken into custody for that crime, evidence was located that tied JALO to the August 14th incident. In addition to the charges surrounding the homicide, JALO is now charged with armed carjacking.
The identity of the second suspect remains under investigation as JALO remains in the custody of the Bristol County Sheriff’s office, where he is held without bail.
“Given the fact that this suspect shot a man ten days earlier, there is no doubt as to the propensity for violence JALO has. We are very fortunate that the victims of this carjacking were not hurt on this night,” said Chief Paul Oliveira. “I’m delighted that we could bring them some comfort in knowing that an arrest has been made. We will not relent until JALO’s partner in this crime is sitting in a cell beside him.”
