Juvenile Arrested on Gun Charges Following Foot Chase

Detectives have placed a juvenile male under arrest for possession of a firearm.

On September 16th, at around 6 p.m., detectives were conducting surveillance around County Street and Austin Street. This neighborhood has been the scene of several shootings in the past few months. During this time, a young man who is known to the officers began fleeing the area after making eye contact. He was then observed to be attempting to discard an item that was tucked into his waistband.

The suspect ran west on Studley Street, then turned into a driveway and hopped a fence to make his way onto Hazard Street. He was subsequently stopped a short distance away and taken into custody by Det. George Coto.

Ofc. Mark Raposo soon discovered that the suspect had discarded a firearm beneath a parked vehicle in the driveway of a nearby residence. It was found to be a Taurus G2C handgun loaded with 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

The juvenile was placed under arrest and is charged with carrying a loaded high-capacity firearm without a license, possession of ammunition, and trespassing. The arresting officer was Det. Nathaniel Almeida.
