Early Morning Shooting Leads to Evening Arrest

New Bedford, MA — Police have made an arrest in an early morning shooting that took place at a local fast-food restaurant.

On December 19th, shortly before 1 AM, officers responded to the Coggeshall St. “Taco Bell” on a call for shots fired.  Upon arrival, they located an adult male victim who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a suspect who had since fled the scene.  Detectives were called upon to further the investigation.

In the time that followed, it was learned that an argument had erupted between two adult female customers and the suspect.  The argument escalated as the suspect physically assaulted both females before leaving the building.  The victim, who had been waiting in a nearby vehicle, was making his way inside the business.  As the two met outside, words were exchanged.  The suspect then produced a firearm and shot the victim.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect is a licensed gun owner, PEDRO JAVIER GONZALEZ OLMO, 31, of 113 Clark St.  OLMO was taken into custody this evening without incident, and his weapons have been seized.  He stands charged with assault and battery, assault by means of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and improper storage.

The arresting officer was Detective Mohammad Mir.
