Two Arrested, Including Juvenile, in North End Firearm Seizure and Pursuit
New Bedford, MA — New Bedford detectives have placed two males including a juvenile under arrest for possession of a firearm.
On Thursday, January 23rd, detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau were conducting surveillance in the North Sector of the City in the area of Myrtle and Weld Streets. At 7:30 p.m., detectives observed two males wearing ski masks with their hands in their sweatshirts. As detectives began to approach them, a foot pursuit began.
As one male was running, identified as DAMIAN BRETON, 19, he was observed reaching into his waistband and manipulating a throwing motion towards a backyard on Smith Street. Detectives apprehended BRETON and located a Smith & Wesson firearm loaded with four rounds of ammo.
The other male, identified as a 17-year-old juvenile, was running on Chestnut Street when he was seen discarding something over a fence. Police apprehended him and units located a loaded Smith & Wesson loaded with 9 rounds of ammo.
BRETON and the juvenile were both taken into custody and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large-capacity firearm.
The juvenile was transported to the Brockton Department of Youth Services.
