Meet Officer Viera: The Department’s New West-End Community Police Officer

We are proud to introduce Officer Tyler Viera as the new West End Community Police Officer.

A lifelong New Bedford resident, Ofc. Viera has served with the NBPD since 2019, spending most of his career in the Patrol Division. Over the years, he has earned praise for his professionalism, respectfulness, and compassion, building strong connections with the people he serves.

Ofc. Viera was previously featured alongside former New England Patriots running back James White in a video promoting the Lights On! campaign, an initiative the department is proud to be a part of.

In his new role, Ofc. Viera will be patrolling the West End with a special focus on our downtown district. He’ll be based out of our new NBPD office connected to the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) bus station, making it easier than ever to connect with the community.

“Officer Viera was selected for this role because of his dedication to building and fostering relationships, addressing community concerns, and being a visible, trusted presence,” said Chief Jason Thody. “I think he will be a valuable asset to both the department and the community he continues to serve in this new capacity.”

Please join us in congratulating Ofc. Viera as he steps into this important role!
